BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 2. The purchase and sale of natural gas savings certificates started on July 2 at the Energy Exchange of Iran, Trend reports.

According to information, the event was held in Tehran with the participation of Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji, Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of National Gas Company Majid Chegeni, Director of Iran Energy Exchange Ali Naqavi, and other officials.

To recall, in 2017, a decision was made to establish an energy and environmental optimization market in Iran. The decision stipulates that a gas-saving certificate, which gives ownership of a certain portion of the gas saved at a certain time, can be sold in the energy and environmental optimization market.

The Ministry of Petroleum of Iran should preprint savings certificates for gas savings during peak hours and off-peak hours for the benefit of saving investors or eligible subscribers.

The National Gas Company of Iran is presenting gas savings certificates for 25 million cubic meters during peak hours and 25 million cubic meters during off-peak hours to eligible participants in the first phase. The peak time of gas consumption in Iran is from October 21 through March 20, while the off-peak time is from March 21 through October 20.

Following approval by the National Gas Company of Iran, the holder of a gas-saving certificate can sell the certificate on the Energy Exchange as part of the Energy and Environment Optimization Market.
