BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 9. Iran's gas exports can be increased by reducing the heating temperature in gas consumption in the local residential areas and commercial facilities, the country's Deputy Oil Minister, Executive Director of National Gas Company Said Tavakkoli told reporters, Trend reports.
He claims that a one-degree drop in the country's air temperature adds 25 million cubic meters to the gas consumption, which is equal to the gas production volume from the first platform of the South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar), a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar.
Tavakkoli stated that a one-degree reduction in gas consumption in residential areas and commercial facilities leads to a six-percent reduction in consumption. However, an increase in gas consumption in these areas inevitably results in a decrease in gas supply to large production plants, thereby negatively impacting the country's gas exports.
The deputy minister further stated that Iran should take significant steps to optimize its gas consumption.
To note, Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. Presently, 22 gas fields are operating in the country.
Meanwhile, Iran is reportedly producing 1.07 billion cubic meters of rich gas daily from various gas fields.
Iran's state budget plans to export 17 bcm of gas in the next Iranian year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026). The price of each cubic meter of gas to be exported by Iran will be 0.3 euros.
