BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 24. Iran’s exports to Turkmenistan via the Sarakhs railway have seen a significant rise, with exports in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 20, 2024) growing by 6 percent compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through December 21, 2023), Director General of Iran's Khorasan Railway Department Mostafa Nasseri told reporters, Trend reports.
Nasseri reported that Iran exported approximately 840,000 tons of products through the Sarakhs railway during the first nine months of the year, mainly consisting of cement and metal products.
The official also reported that the Razavi Khorasan province's stations loaded around 810,000 tons of the exported goods.Furthermore, during the same period, Iran imported 61,000 tons of products through the Sarakhs railway, marking a 37 percent increase compared to the previous year. These imports primarily included cotton and other agricultural goods.
Additionally, the official highlighted that nearly 1.3 million tons of goods have transited through the Sarakhs railway in the past nine months.
In the previous fiscal cycle, Iran facilitated the exportation of over one million metric tons of commodities to Turkmenistan via the Sarakhs rail corridor.
