BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 21. The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has drilled and enhanced a total of 79 oil and gas wells over the first ten months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through January 19, 2025), said Masoud Afshar, Deputy Head of NIDC for drilling operations, Trend reports.
In a statement to Iranian media, Afshar explained that out of the total wells drilled, 61 were for repair and 18 were development wells.
He further noted that the drilling activities were spread across various regions, including 57 wells in the South Oil Zone, 9 in the Central Oil Zone, 3 in the Offshore Oil Company’s area, and 6 in the Oil Engineering and Development Company’s area. Additionally, 4 wells were drilled based on orders from the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
The total drilling depth over this period amounted to 91,400 meters, Afshar added. Currently, the National Drilling Company has 14 drilling rigs positioned across different locations.
Currently, Iran has 74 active oil fields and 22 gas fields. There are 37 oil fields operating under the Southern Oil Zones National Company of Iran, 14 under the Central Oil Zones Company of Iran, 5 under the Arvandan Oil and Gas Production Company, and 18 under the Offshore Oil Company. Additionally, there are 5 gas fields operating under the Southern Oil Zones National Company of Iran, 13 under the Central Oil Zones Company, 1 under the Pars Oil and Gas Company, and 3 under the Offshore Oil Company.
Iran's total hydrocarbon reserves are 1.2 trillion barrels. Iran can produce 340 billion barrels with existing technological equipment. Iran can use about 30 percent, and 70 percent remains unutilized underground.
