BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. Iran increased honey exports by 20 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), the country’s Ministry of Agriculture contractor Hossein Akbarpour said at the event organized on the occasion of "World Beekeeping Day", Trend reports.
He mentioned that last year Iran exported 1,870 tons of honey compared to 1,500 tons in the previous year.
Akbarpour further said that, in general, annually, 2.13 million tons of honey are produced in the world, and 128,000 tons in Iran.
The official pointed out that Iran's honey export potential is at least 5,000 tons per year. Accordingly, the goal is to increase honey exports by 20 percent per year.
The official added that the beekeeping sector in Iran benefits the agricultural sector by about 90 times, and the value of the country's beekeeping sector is 960 trillion rials (approximately $1.67 billion).
Iran has developed a 4-year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2026) program. Based on this program, beekeepers will be supported in the issues of beekeepers' insurance, risk reduction, production increase, and other issues.
