ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 5. As a result of comprehensive measures implemented last year, the number of crimes in Kazakhstan decreased by more than 12,700, said Kazakhstan's Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov during a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov. Tokayev was informed about the criminal situation in the country and the implementation of the "Law and Order" principle by the internal affairs bodies. The President was also briefed that there has been a significant reduction in criminal activities in recent years, including particularly dangerous crimes such as murders, robberies, muggings, and thefts. In addition, the introduction of modern investigative methods has improved the detection rates for all categories of criminal offenses.

Yerzhan Sadenov reported on the results of efforts to locate criminals. The President of Kazakhstan was also informed about the progress in carrying out his instructions to combat organized crime, cybercrime, and drug-related offenses, as well as to prevent law violations. Specifically, 264 people have been held criminally liable for participation in organized criminal groups (OCGs).

Over the past 12 months, around 7,500 internet resources containing information about the distribution of drugs were identified, almost 22 tons of drugs were prevented from entering circulation, and 64 drug laboratories were dismantled. Additionally, 65 million calls from internet fraudsters were blocked, 48 SIM-box devices used to substitute phone numbers were identified, and more than 2 billion tenge (3.8 million) were prevented from being illegally transferred out of the country by fraudsters.

The Minister also informed the President about measures to protect the rights of minors, strengthen migration control, ensure road safety, and improve the criminal-executive system. Following the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave a number of instructions aimed at further enhancing law enforcement and public safety in the country.

Additionally, in 2024, the Kazakh police detained 1,949 wanted individuals.
