ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 23. KMG PetroChem (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas), in partnership with CNPC-Aktobemunaigas and the National Academy of Sciences under the president of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has begun agro-field trials of urea, Trend reports.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with domestic agrarians to provide a scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of the fertilizer in real agricultural production conditions, as well as to contribute to the country's food security. The research will later extend to the Kostanay, Akmola, and Aktobe regions.
"The first trial site is the KazSRI (Kazakhstan Scientific Research Institute) of Agriculture and Plant Growing in the Almaty region. As part of the project, about 90 tons of urea are planned to be applied over an area of approximately 600 hectares across different soil-climatic zones of the country. The scientific supervision is provided by leading Kazakhstani scientists. Soil and plant samples will be taken throughout the growing season," KazMunayGas reports.
Following the agro-field trials, an open scientific report will be prepared for the Ministry of Agriculture and the agrarian sector of the country. Practical recommendations on the use of urea in Kazakhstan’s regions with different agro-climatic characteristics will also be developed.
"The project will increase farmers' awareness of the potential to boost yields using modern fertilizers," the company added.
The trials are a key stage in the implementation of the urea project in the Aktobe region. In partnership with CNPC, one of the largest Chinese companies with international experience in the petrochemical industry, KMG PetroChem is working on the construction of the plant.
