ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 29. Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), Askhat Khassenov, met with ExxonMobil’s Vice President for Conventional and Heavy Oil Production, Peter Larden, Trend reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the Tengiz project. They emphasized the need to update the project solutions for Tengiz to ensure continued efficient development of the field.
Moreover, the meeting noted the importance of preparation by the operator, Tengizchevroil, of a long-term program of maintenance and modernization of production facilities in order to maintain the current high level of industrial safety.
“Regarding the North Caspian project, the parties noted stable production indicators, which point to significant potential for further production growth at Kashagan,” said KazMunayGas in a statement.
In addition, the sides discussed the formation of conditions for localizing production in Kazakhstan within the framework of major oil and gas projects. KMG views increasing the share of Kazakhstani content as a key strategic priority, contributing to the development of the national economy and enhancing the competitiveness of domestic companies.
Another focus of the meeting was the expansion of exploration cooperation between KazMunayGas and ExxonMobil. The American company has been invited to the second phase of KMG’s global roadshow in 2025, where a new pool of promising exploration projects will be presented to potential subsoil users and investors.
ExxonMobil is one of the world’s largest publicly traded oil and
gas companies, headquartered in Spring, Texas, near Houston. Formed
in 1999 through the merger of Exxon and Mobil, it traces its
origins to John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company, established
in 1882. The company operates globally, with a workforce of
approximately 60,900 employees as of 2024.
