ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 10. In Kazakhstan’s Astana, a discussion was held between the Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, Almassadam Satkaliev, and the Chairman of Jordan’s Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Khaled Toukan, Trend reports via the press service of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Kazakh-Jordanian cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy.
“Special attention was paid to cooperation between the regulatory bodies of the two countries. The Jordanian side expressed interest in exchanging experience in operating research reactors for the production of radiopharmaceuticals and radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine and the development of small modular reactors, as well as issues of radiation protection and nuclear safety,” the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy reported.
Moreover, Satkaliev noted that Kazakhstan has completed the establishment of the Agency for Atomic Energy and formed the Committee for Atomic Supervision and Control—a regulatory body ensuring safety in the industry. He emphasized that Kazakhstan is focused on implementing international standards and best practices in regulation, environmental sustainability, and nuclear safety.
During the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
On February 19, 2025, in Amman, during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission. The document laid the foundation for cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy, including personnel training, scientific research, radiation safety, and uranium deposit exploration.
The arrival of the Jordanian delegation was a significant leap towards laying the groundwork for a lasting partnership between the key players of the two nations.
