ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 20. Rosatom and Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency have approved a roadmap for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Almaty region, Trend reports.
The strategic roadmap was conclusively delineated in a
high-level meeting between Rosatom's Director General, Alexey
Likhachev, and Almasadam Satkaliyev, the esteemed Chairman of the
Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan, convened on the periphery of
the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The Indicative Roadmap delineates the principal phases of the
initiative, encompassing engineering and survey operations, the
execution of an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction)
agreement, and the formulation of design documentation.
Furthermore, Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP and Rosatom’s
engineering subsidiary, Atomstroyexport, have executed a
foundational accord delineating the principal tenets for
collaborative engagement. The initiative is strategically
positioned within the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region.
The initiative constitutes a pivotal element of an expansive
interstate synergy aimed at the sustainable and peaceful
application of nuclear energy technologies. The initiative seeks to
bolster Kazakhstan's energy resilience while aligning with its
strategic objectives for sustainable decarbonization over the long
haul. Both parties underscored the criticality of initiating the
operationalization phase at the earliest opportunity.
