In the last Iranian year (March 21, 2018-March 20, 2019), fruit exports of Iran's Mazandaran province increased by 3 percent compared to the preceding year, said Hadi Eyzadi Amiri, an official with Mazandaran Agricultural Jihad Organization, Trend reports via IRNA.
Last year, the province exported 100,000 tons of various fruits for 5 trillion rials (roughly $119,000), Amiri said.
Mazandaran exported 55 percent of its output of citruses and 45 percent of kiwi fruits to Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asia, he added.
The orchards of the province cover an area of 150,000 hectares, Amiri said, adding that 115,000 hectares of the orchards have been allocated for citrus fruits, while peach and kiwi fruit orchards cover 15,000 and 6,000 hectares, respectively, and the rest 14,000 hectares account for other fruits.
Last year, 3.5 million tons of fruit were harvested in Mazandaran, and of these, 2.7 million tons accounted for citruses, 300,000 tons to peaches, 200,000 tons to kiwi fruit, and the rest 300,000 tons accounted for other fruits, Amiri said.
In the preceding year, the fruit output of the province was 3.3 million tons, Amiri noted.
Mazandaran cultivates 72 types of fruits and other agricultural plants, and produces about 7 million tons of agricultural goods.
Roughly, 2.5 percent of Iran's fields are in Mazandaran and the province, in terms of value, accounts for 11 percent of Iran's agricultural industry.
