ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 24. Voter turnout in Kazakhstan’s elections to the Kurultai is quite high, Turkish Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu said, Trend's special correspondent reports from Astana.

“From what we can see at the moment, everything is proceeding calmly and in an organized manner. Of course, international organizations will publish their own reports following the elections. However, based on our observations, voter turnout is quite high and the voting process is well organized,” he told journalists.

Kapucu emphasized that, as the first country to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence, Türkiye has closely and positively followed the country’s democratic development and domestic developments since Kazakhstan gained independence.

“We also observed the referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution on March 15 together with our observers. This was a very important stage in Kazakhstan’s political life and the development of democratic processes in the country,” the ambassador said.

He noted that these are the first elections held in the format of the Kurultai.

“Kurultai means governance through joint discussion and consultation. This is a very ancient Turkic tradition. For us, it is also of great symbolic importance to see this tradition reflected in the system of a modern state.

“I wish these elections bring benefit and prosperity to the people of Kazakhstan. I believe that a strong, and even stronger, Kazakhstan in the period ahead will have a positive impact on relations between our two countries in Central Asia, as well as on the entire Turkic world,” Kapucu concluded.
