BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 16. The harvest of several types of crops and vegetables has increased in Kyrgyzstan as of September 23, 2024, compared to the same date last year, Trend reports.
The State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan noted significant increases in the gross harvest of barley, which rose by 67.5 percent, wheat by 52.7 percent, fruits and berries by 29.1 percent, melons by 17.2 percent, and oilseeds by 16.2 percent.
Conversely, there was a decrease in the gross harvest of cotton, down 25.9 percent, tobacco by 21.9 percent, rice by 1.4 percent, and potatoes by 0.3 percent.
This decline in total harvest is attributed to a reduction in the area sown for the 2024 crop compared to last year, particularly for tobacco (down 42 percent), cotton (down 26.9 percent), and potatoes (down 8.4 percent).
As of September 23 of this year, cereals (excluding legumes, rice, and buckwheat) have been harvested from 565,000 hectares, which is 3.5 percent more than on the same date last year. Approximately 94 percent of the sown area has been harvested.
A total of 1.9 million tons of grain has been threshed, which is a 37.5 percent increase compared to the same date last year.
The gross agricultural output in Kyrgyzstan totaled 302.1 billion soms ($3.5 billion) from January through September 2024, which is 6.7 percent higher than the same period last year.
