Iran has suggested other countries to construct power plants on its soil and sell the produced electricity, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereydoon Abbasi-Davani said late on Tuesday.
Iran also builds power plants in other countries to gain more experience in the field, the IRIB News Agency quoted Abbas as saying.
Majlis has approved that Iran should produce 20,000 MW of nuclear electricity.
After launching Bushehr nuclear power plant, we are now studying 16 sites for constructing new reactors in order to reach the mentioned production point, he explained.
Abbasi-Davani assured that Bushehr reactor was undamaged after a powerful earthquake hit Iran's southwestern Bushehr province.
A powerful earthquake struck close to Iran's only nuclear power station on Tuesday, killing 37 people and injuring 850 as it destroyed homes and devastated two small villages.
The epicenter of the 6.1 magnitude earth quake was 89 km (55 miles) southeast of the port of Bushehr, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Across the Persian Gulf, offices in Qatar and Bahrain were evacuated after the quake. The early afternoon shock was also felt in financial hub Dubai.
The Russian company that built the nuclear power station, 18 km (11 miles) south of Bushehr, also said the plant was unaffected, Reuters reported.
While initial fears about nuclear fallout receded, nearer the epicenter the rescue efforts ramped up into the night in search of survivors and to feed and house hundreds of residents who were traumatized by at least 16 aftershocks.
