Iran's Sangan iron ore complex jacks up its production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. The production at the Sangan iron ore complex in Razavi Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran grew by 1.7 percent against the plan during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) shows that about 25.6 million tons of iron ore have been produced at the Sangan iron ore complex in the mentioned period against the planned 25.2 million tons.

As much as 2.03 million tons of iron ore were extracted from the Sangan iron ore complex during the 12th month (from February 19 through March 20, 2025).

Last year, the complex carried out 12,900 meters of exploration operations, up 2,940 meters from the target.

Sangan Iron Ore Complex is located in Khaf district in Razavi Khorasan Province, near Iran's border with Afghanistan. This iron ore complex operates under the management of IMIDRO.

Meanwhile, Iran can produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate annually. Iron ore concentrate is used in steel production. The potential of steel production in Iran is about 40 million tons per year.
