ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 25. Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, delivered a report during a government hour session in the Mazhilis (the lower house of parliament), where he announced plans to design a new oil refinery no later than 2030, Trend reports.

In the report, the head of the Ministry of Energy noted that due to the expected shortage of light oil products in 2036, it is necessary to begin designing a new oil refinery with a capacity of 10 million tons per year, with construction planned for 2032.

According to Satkaliyev, the demand for diesel fuel in Kazakhstan is expected to rise by an additional 2 million tons yearly from 2030 through 2036, resulting in a 0.2 million-ton deficit that would increase by 0.3-0.35 million tons annually until 2050.

Due to the possible import of petroleum products in 2036–2040, production-consumption balances will need to be updated on a frequent basis from 2028 through 2030.

Satkaliyev emphasized that the construction of the new refinery will meet the country’s fuel needs from 2040 to 2050 and will allow for the export of petroleum products to the rapidly developing markets of Central, South, and Southwestern Asia.

In today's report, the Minister of Energy presented the key aspects of energy resource extraction and trade. Several main tasks were outlined for the future development of Kazakhstan's energy sector.
