BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 8. The production capacity of the Nakhchivan modular power plant in Azerbaijan can reach 345 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, a source in the State Energy Service of Nakhchivan told Trend.
According to the source, the piston-type units installed at the plant, each with a capacity of 8.7 MW, can be started and stopped in a short time.
"The plant's efficiency is 46 percent, and the volume of natural gas consumed per kilowatt-hour of electricity is 297 grams. The plant is designed to produce 345 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually," the source added.
To note, in accordance with the decree of the President of Azerbaijan "On additional measures to improve electricity supply in Azerbaijan" dated May 2, 2005, a modular power plant with a total capacity of 87 megawatts, consisting of 10 modules, was constructed and commissioned.
Construction of the modular power plant began in June 2006. The general contractor for the plant was the Finnish company Wärtsilä, with subcontractors including the Swiss ABB company and Azerenerji LLC. Construction, testing, and commissioning were completed in a short period. The plant was inaugurated on December 20, 2006, with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
