BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 27. Nearly 50 percent of the construction work on the Orto-Tokoy Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kyrgyzstan has been completed, with the project on track for completion by mid-2026, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.
The Orto-Toy Hydropower Station, designed to have a capacity of 21 MW, is being built by JSC Chakan HPP in partnership with China National Machinery Industry Corporation (CHMC). The total construction period is set for 24 months.
Progress So Far:

Construction of both temporary and permanent access roads

Setup of a construction camp, warehouses, concrete plants, and electrical supply infrastructure

Drilling of 727 meters out of the planned 928 meters of the diversion tunnel

Construction of retaining walls for the discharge channel (868 m³ of concrete)

Installation of sluice gates and three suction pipe cones

Completion of access road work to the water intake facility
Currently, reinforcement and formwork works are being carried out in the operational control rooms and the 10 kV distribution unit. Installation of steel supports inside the tunnel is also underway. Permits for the 110/10 kV substation have been secured, and preparations for construction are ongoing. Simultaneously, coordination with the Balykchy municipal authorities for land allocation for the 110 kV overhead power line is in progress.
Once operational, the Orto-Toy Hydropower Station is expected to supply electricity to more than 14,000 consumers in the region. The project was initiated by a government decree on July 30, 2021, with the contract signed with CHMC on March 24, 2023.
