BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 11. Iran's import of cooking oils increased by 40 percent in value and 57 percent in volume in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
As indicated in the data of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran imported a total of 964,000 tons of various vegetables oils (including, sunflower, soybean, corn, palm, etc.) worth approximately $1.6 billion within 6 months.
Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, Iran’s cooking oil imports stood at around 614,000 tons worth about $1.12 billion.
In total, Iran produces and imports more than 2 million tons of cooking oils every year. However, the country only consumes about 1.5 million tons of them. The rest are stored as essential products. Most of the cooking oils are imported in raw form, which amount to 1.2 million tons per year on average.
Generally, Iran imported 8.85 million tons of essential products, such as cooking oils, wheat, barley, corn, etc. worth $6 billion in the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), showing a decrease by 13.5 percent in value and 7.5 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
Overall, Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). This is an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
