Kazakhstan Railways replenishes fleet with new shunting locomotives

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 19. Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) has replenished its fleet with new diesel locomotives of the TEM-11A series, Trend reports.

According to KTZ, the new locomotives have arrived at the Zhana-Yesil locomotive depot. The locomotives are assembled at the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty plant in Astana.

The diesel locomotives are designed for shunting and maintenance work and will be operated by locomotive crews on the Zhana-Yesil – Saumalkol, Zhana-Yesil – Zernovaya sections.

As KTZ noted, locomotives meet all the comfort requirements for crews: full autonomy, electronic control, an on-board computer, an air conditioning system, a refrigerator, and an electric stove for heating food.

By the end of 2024, the locomotive fleet of Kazakhstan will be replenished with 21 shunting diesel locomotives of the new TEM-11A series.

As of December 31, 2023, the locomotive fleet in Kazakhstan amounted to 1,778 units, including 1,151 diesel locomotives and 527 electric locomotives. The main share of locomotives in the amount of 96 percent belongs to the group of companies Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company), and 4 percent to private owners.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan plans to buy 559 locomotives by 2028, including 193 electric locomotives and 366 diesel locomotives.
