BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. Kyrgyzstan's passenger car imports from China have skyrocketed in the past 5 years, with a dramatic increase in both volume and value, Trend reports.
According to the data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee, in 2019, Kyrgyzstan imported just 68 cars from China, valued at $6.452 million. However, in 2023, the number of imported vehicles surged to 79,131, with a total value reaching $1.197 billion.

The data shows a natural drop in car imports during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, Kyrgyzstan imported only 24 cars worth $172,500. Although imports increased in 2021 to 119 cars valued at $4.111 million, the average price per car was much lower than in 2019.
In 2022, car imports rebounded sharply, with 1,773 cars imported worth $44.126 million. The average price per car dropped compared to the preceding years, suggesting more affordable models or an increase in used car imports.
The trend continued in 2023, with a record number of cars imported—79,131 in total—valued at $1.197 billion. The average price per car fell even further, indicating a strong demand for budget-friendly vehicles or more used cars.
In the first five months of 2024 alone, Kyrgyzstan imported 35,816 passenger cars from China, which is 6.6 times more than the 5,390 cars imported in the same period of 2023. The value of these imports reached $600.158 million, increasing nearly 4.9 times from $120.865 million in January–May 2023.
Kyrgyzstan’s imports from China amounted to $5.353 billion in 2023, which is 3 times more than 1.734 billion in 2019.
