BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 6. Kyrgyzstan generated 4.88 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in January–March 2025, marking a 4.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee shows that the country produced 1.15 billion kWh of electricity in March alone. However, this figure is 7.1 percent lower than in March 2024, when output had surged by over 35 percent year-on-year.
However, in the first quarter of 2024, Kyrgyzstan generated 4.67 billion kWh of electricity, showing only a slight growth of 0.4 percent from the previous year.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan generated a total of 14.7 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2024, marking a 6.3 percent increase compared to 2023.
Hydropower remained the dominant source of electricity in Kyrgyzstan in 2024, with major hydropower plants producing 12.77 billion kilowatt-hours. Thermal power plants followed, generating 1.76 billion kilowatt-hours. Private small hydropower stations also made a notable contribution, supplying 156.2 million kilowatt-hours. Meanwhile, alternative energy sources, particularly solar power, generated 0.17 million kilowatt-hours.
