DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 26. The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the Tajik Pamir Energy Company have signed an agreement to transfer grant funds for the construction of the Sebzor hydropower plant (HPP), Trend reports.
The funds, amounting to 44.4 million euros, were provided to the Ministry by the German KfW Development Bank.
The agreement was signed by Zavqi Zavqizoda, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and Amrikhon Raimov, the General Director of Pamir Energy.
Construction of the Sebzor HPP on the Shokhdara river in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region began in 2015. The HPP, with an 11 MW capacity, will supply energy to over 227,000 people in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region and 468,000 people in the bordering areas of neighboring Afghanistan. The Sebzor HPP is expected to be operational by 2024.
In March 2024, it was announced that the EU will provide an additional 16 million euros for the completion of the Sebzor HPP and its associated grid infrastructure in Tajikistan.
