TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 10. The Chinese BYD car plant for the production of hybrids and electric vehicles in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan is planned to open in June 2024, Trend reports.

At the first stage, the capacity of the plant in the Jizzakh region will be 50,000 cars per year, but in the future, it will be gradually increased to 300,000 cars, some of which will be exported to foreign countries.

Additionally, the factory will initially build three different automobile types. Mass delivery of locally produced hybrids and electric vehicles is planned for the third quarter of this year.

The project for the assembly of electric and hybrid cars in the Jizzakh region was launched on January 25. The cost of the project is estimated at $160 million, of which $120 million is planned to be invested this year. As a result, about 1,200 new jobs will be created.

Notably, Uzbekistan intends to increase the production of BYD electric and hybrid cars to 500 thousand per year and increase the degree of localization to 60 percent.
