TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 20. Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (Saneg), Uzbekistan’s largest independent oil producer, has completed and commissioned new gas pipelines and 21 modular compressor units (MCUs) at the company's key fields in Northern Urtabulak, Sardob, Shurtepa, Eastern Tashly, Northern Shurtan, Yangi Karatepa, and Turtsari, the company told Trend.
Initiated in March 2024, the project, with a value of more than 14 million euros, was implemented in partnership with international companies Vema S.A. (Switzerland) and ICA-Finance (Norway) and with the participation of the Geo Research & Development Company (GRDC) of Uzbekistan, which developed the project documentation. The goal of the project is to reduce Saneg’s carbon footprint and support the energy independence of Uzbekistan.
"We strive to introduce the best available technologies that ensure the efficient and careful use of resources and reduce the anthropogenic load for the transition to a green economy," CEO of Saneg Tulkin Yusupov said.
Saneg is now reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 138,632 tons annually and ensuring the rational use of hydrocarbon resources. The system has already extinguished six flares.
The total design capacity of gas pipelines and modular compressor units at the North Urtabulak, Sardob, Shurtepa, East Tashly, North Shurtan, Yangi Karatepa, and Turtsari fields exceeds 70 million cubic meters of methane per year. The newly installed compressors provide gas compression with a pressure of between 5 to 40 atmospheres. Each technical solution implemented provides for the creation of a closed cycle - from the original well to the gas transmission system of Uzbekistan - with the subsequent supply of gas to end consumers.
Moreover, ultrasonic gas flow meters and specialized industrial equipment for accurate gas volume metering have been installed to measure gas volumes. A similar project is planned to be implemented at the Shirkent field, where Saneg is currently working with Vema S.A. to determine the volume and composition of the gas to be flared, as well as to develop an optimal technical solution for the facility.
Saneg previously completed the successful search and elimination of gas leaks in an earlier project with Vema S.A. and ICA-Finance AS. This reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 83,000 tons per year, in another important step in the fight against climate change.
Saneg (Jizzakh Petroleum until November 2021) is Uzbekistan’s largest private oil and gas company, owning the subsoil rights to 103 deposits for geological exploration and extraction, which account for about 80 percent of oil production in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The company employs over 5,000 people and has production facilities in Karshi, Mubarek, Fergana, and Andijan.
