BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 26. The burning of at least 35,000 cubic meters of sour gas per day at the 5th refinery of Iran's South Pars Gas Company has been prevented, the director of the 5th refinery of Iran's South Pars Gas Company Kambiz Sefati told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, production and processing of sulfur in gas refineries play a fundamental role in environmental pollution. In this regard, a sulfur production and processing unit has been commissioned at the 5th processing plant.
Sefati stated that this unit is currently in operation with the aim of producing 60 tons of sulfur daily and preventing the flaring of sour gas.
The official noted that given the strict regulations in the country regarding pollution prevention, necessary measures are also being taken at the 5th processing plant.
Meanwhile, the volume of flared gas burned at the plants of Iran's South Pars Gas Company (12 plants) in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) decreased by 1.2 bcm compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
The company's plants are currently flaring 7.4 million cubic meters of flared gas daily.
The company is implementing projects to reduce flared gas combustion. Following completion of the projects, the volume of flared gas will be reduced from 8.7 million cubic meters per day to 5.3 million cubic meters daily.
