Iran's commercial attaché to Iraq, Naser Behzad, said Iraq has lifted a ban on exports of garlic from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Back in 2015, Iraq’s Agriculture Ministry had banned the import of garlic from Iran,” Behzad said, IRIB news agency reported on July 18.
He added that the ministry removed the ban after talks with Iraqi officials.
The provinces of Khorasan, Hamedan, Semnan, Mazandaran, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Markazi and Zanjan are among major producers of garlic in Iran, he said.
Saying that more than 100,000 tons of garlic are cultivated in Iran annually, Behzad said the provinces can help revive Iran’s export of garlic to the Arab country.
Export destinations of Iranian garlic are mainly regional countries, including Turkmenistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Kuwait, Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
