BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. Almost 96 percent of physical work at the railway station in the Hamadan Province, located in western Iran, has been completed, the Executive Director of the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) Houshang Bazvand told reporters, Trend reports.
He explained that the station, part of the Tehran-Hamadan-Sanandaj-Bashmaq railway line, occupies 117 hectares and includes a passenger terminal spanning 11,300 square meters.
Bazvand also noted that once the Tehran-Hamadan-Sanandaj-Bashmaq railway is connected to the Arak-Kermanshah-Khosravi railway line, significant increases in both passenger and freight transportation are expected in the region.
To note, the construction of the Tehran-Hamadan-Sanandaj railway line began 19 years ago. The 478-kilometer stretch between Hamadan and Sanandaj is located in HamAdan province, while 103 kilometers run through Kurdistan province. The Tehran-HamAdan railway line was commissioned in 2017, and the Hamedan-Sanandaj section was opened in November 2023.
Additionally, a new railway line is planned to connect Sanandaj city in Kurdistan Province to the Bashmaq customs point on the Iran-Iraq border, covering a distance of over 130 kilometers.
