BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. Iran imported 17,800 tons of goods worth $62.9 million through the customs of East Azerbaijan Province, located in the country's north-west, during the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2025), Sadegh Namdar, an official of the province's Customs Department, told reporters, Trend reports.
He explained that during this period, $12 million worth of red meat, $11 million worth of various equipment and spare parts, $6 million worth of machinery (used in road construction), $5 million worth of spare parts for road construction machinery, and $4 million worth of cocoa and cocoa products were imported.
Namdar said that, in the first month, the imports mainly included goods worth $35 million from Türkiye, $10 million from the UAE, $10 million from China, $4 million from Japan, and $808,000 from Iraq.
The official pointed out that during the reporting period, essential goods worth $14.4 million, totaling 3,220 tons (such as wheat, barley, rice, cooking oil, etc.), were imported through the province's customs.
The Iranian Customs Administration data shows that Iran's non-oil imports amounted to 1.8 million tons valued at $2.85 billion in the first month of the current Iranian year. The value grew by 2.3 percent, while the volume decreased by 26.4 percent compared to the same month of last year.
