BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. Tajikistan's hospitality sector recorded strong growth in the first half of 2026, with turnover from hotels and restaurants increasing by nearly 55% year on year.
The figures were released by Tajikistan's statistical authorities.
According to the data, turnover in the hotel and restaurant sector reached 2.43 billion somoni (about $262.7 million) in January–June 2026, representing a 54.9% increase compared with the same period last year.
In June alone, turnover totaled 427.6 million somoni (around $46.2 million), up 66.5% year on year. Compared with May 2026, the volume of services also increased 54.9%, extending the sector's strong growth momentum.
Dushanbe remained the country's largest hospitality market, generating 1.11 billion somoni (approx. $120 million) in turnover during the first half of the year, accounting for nearly 46% of the national total. Turnover in the capital increased 31% from a year earlier, supported by a high concentration of hotels, restaurants and tourism-related businesses.
Among the regions, Khatlon Region recorded 724.7 million somoni (about $78.3 million) in turnover, up 22.6% year on year, while Sughd Region generated 480.5 million somoni (around $51.9 million), marking an 8.4% increase.
Turnover in the Districts of Republican Subordination reached 97.9 million somoni (approx. $10.5 million), up 3.2%, while the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region recorded 15.4 million somoni (about $1.6 million), an increase of 1.5% compared with the first half of 2025.
Trend's analysis shows that Tajikistan's hospitality sector continued to expand at a pace well above overall economic growth, reflecting stronger domestic demand and a recovery in tourism-related activity. The 54.9% increase in turnover during the first half of the year, together with the 66.5% jump recorded in June, points to accelerating business activity across the sector.
Trend's calculations show that Dushanbe accounted for approximately 45.8% of the country's total hospitality turnover, reinforcing its position as Tajikistan's principal tourism and business hub. Together, Dushanbe, Khatlon and Sughd generated more than 95% of total turnover, highlighting the concentration of hospitality services in the country's largest economic centers.
In Trend's assessment, the strong growth in hotels and restaurants reflects rising consumer spending and continued expansion of tourism infrastructure. However, the relatively modest growth recorded in the Districts of Republican Subordination and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region suggests that the sector's development remains uneven, with tourism and hospitality activity still concentrated in the capital and the country's most economically developed regions.
