BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. At present, during the negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz, there is no discussion of imposing fees for passage through the strait.
This was announced by the press service of the Iranian MFA, citing spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei's remarks at a press conference in Tehran on August 10.
“At present, the focus is on establishing mechanisms that, in addition to ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, will be aimed at protecting the environment and providing maritime services. Of course, if maritime services are provided, appropriate fees will certainly be charged for them,” he noted.
Baghaei stated that during the negotiations between Iran and Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, the details have not yet been discussed. The two countries have reached an agreement on a chart for the shipping route. However, there are some technical issues regarding the joint statement by the two countries, which are currently being negotiated. Overall, the discussions are proceeding constructively.
Meanwhile, citing military attacks by the U.S. and Israel against the country, Iran has imposed restrictions on the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the U.S. has also imposed a naval blockade against Iran in the Oman Sea. The ongoing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have complicated energy exports by the Gulf states, which account for 15% of the world’s energy supply.
