BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. Türkiye has successfully doubled its solar energy capacity over the last two and a half years, Trend reports, referring to Turkish media.
According to sources, Türkiye's solar energy capacity surpassed 19.6 gigawatts by the end of 2024. The country’s solar energy capacity, which was at 9.7 gigawatts in July 2022, has grown by two times over the past two and a half years.
Additionally, Türkiye reached its target of 18 gigawatts of solar energy by August 2024, achieving its goal 1.5 years ahead of schedule.
The country is expected to further expand its solar and wind energy capabilities, with plans to increase renewable energy to 120 gigawatts by 2035, and this growth trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
The Renewable Energy Resources Area (RERA) model will continue to support capacity growth in solar and wind energy this year. Türkiye is estimated to have a floating solar power station potential of at least 53 gigawatts.
The tendering of these projects under the RERA framework is expected to contribute to increasing renewable energy potential and the assessment of unused water surfaces.
