BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18. Azerbaijan's total expenditure on food imports from January through November 2024 rose by 10.81 percent ($213.9 million) and amounted to $2.19 billion.
According to data Trend got from the nation's State Customs Committee, the nation imported 14,080 tons of milk (up 21.35 percent) and 53,300 tons of meat (up 39.31 percent) valued at $116.9 million (up 48.92 percent) during the reporting period. 26,400 tons of dairy products (up 77.01 percent) and $22.80 million (up 1.54 percent). 325,850 tons of fruits and vegetables (up 4.22 percent), and $151.56 million (up 81.5 percent) The amounts were $246.47 million (up 22.73 percent), 12,890 tons of tea (up 3.34 percent), and $67.72 million (up 4.55 percent).
Azerbaijan also imported over 1.25 million tons of wheat, corn, and rice, worth over $324.38 million.
The import of vegetable oils and fats amounted to 153,480 tons, valued at over $186.04 million.
To note, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover from January through November 2024 decreased by 8.91 percent, or $4.2 billion, compared to the same period of 2023 (from $47.3 billion to $43.1 billion).
Exports accounted for $24.3 billion in the structure of foreign trade turnover, which is $7.1 billion, or 22.77 percent, less than the figure of the same period last year. The share of exports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 56.46 percent against 66.59 percent a year earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period increased by $2.9 billion, or 18.71 percent, year over year, from $15.8 billion to about $18.7 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 43.54 percent against 33.41 percent a year earlier.
Consequently, in the reporting period, the balance of foreign trade turnover, remaining positive, decreased in annualized terms by more than $10.1 billion, or 64.55 percent, to $5.5 billion against $15.7 billion in the same period of 2023.
