ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 30. Kazakhstan is strengthening its role as a key transit hub in the North-South corridor, as participants of a four-party meeting focused on enhancing the attractiveness of this international transport corridor, Trend reports.
A two-day meeting in Almaty brought together representatives of
the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, JSC "NC "Kazakhstan
Railways" ("Kazakhstan Temir Zholy"), JSC "Russian Railways," and
the Turkmen Railways Agency ("Turkmendemiryollary").
During the discussions, the parties reviewed freight transportation
volumes through Kazakhstan via the Bolashak border station. In
2024, cargo transportation along this route reached 1.6 million
tons.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to increase transportation volumes along this route and to further strengthen mutual cooperation.
Special attention was given to improving the attractiveness of the North-South international transport corridor. The meeting also addressed favorable through-tariff conditions for transportation across Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and onward to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
Additionally, at the conclusion of the meeting, a protocol was signed outlining the agreements reached.
