ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 16. Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas Askhat Khassenov met with He Wenyang, General Director of CNODC (a subsidiary of CNPC), Trend reports via KazMunayGas.
According to the company’s information, the parties discussed cooperation in geological exploration.
“In particular, they reviewed the current status of joint regional studies of the eastern flank of the Pre-Caspian Basin under the framework agreement signed between KazMunayGas (KMG) and CNPC in 2024 to expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector,” the company stated.
Additionally, they discussed the results of drilling a deep well under the Turgai Paleozoic project in the Kyzylorda region, as well as prospects for further research into Paleozoic deposits in the South Turgai Basin.
Moreover, the parties discussed current results and future plans of their jointly controlled enterprise—Mangistaumunaigas (MMG, 50 percent owned by KMG, 50 percent by CNPC).
One of the key areas of strategic partnership between KMG and CNPC is also the joint “Carbamide” project being implemented in the Aktobe region.
“The preliminary cost is $1.2 billion. This initiative is of great importance for strengthening the country’s food security. Implementing the project in cooperation with Chinese partners opens up new prospects for enhancing industrial potential,” KazMunayGas added.
The meeting also addressed expanding cooperation between “KMG Engineering” and CNODC’s research institute—RIPED—in the area of enhanced oil recovery methods at jointly developed fields.
