BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. A total of 6.6 billion manat ($3.9 billion) was allocated from last year's state budget for defense and national security expenses in Azerbaijan, in accordance with the budget requests of the relevant budget organizations, up 707.4 million manat ($416.3 million), or 12.1 percent compared to 2023, Trend reports.
This issue was reflected in the draft law “On the execution of the state budget of Azerbaijan for 2024", discussed at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship.
These expenses made up 5.2 percent of GDP, which is 0.4
percentage points higher than in 2023, and accounted for 17.4
percent of state budget expenditures, up by 1.3 percentage points
from the previous year.
In the course of the reporting period, a whopping 3.5 billion manat
($2.1 billion) was pulled from the state budget to fund special
defense-related projects and activities, making it a real feather
in the cap for national security efforts.
In addition to the allocated funds from the defense and national security section of the 2024 state budget, the extra-budgetary expenses financed by the organizations and agencies in this section amounted to 21.7 million manat ($12.8 million), which is five million manat ($2.9 million), or 29.9 percent more than in 2023.
