BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Azerbaijan's Agrarian Insurance Fund collected insurance premiums worth 13.1 million manat ($7.7 million) from January through June 2025, which is 18 percent more than the same period last year
The data obtained by Trend from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that crop insurance premiums grew by 13 percent, while livestock insurance premiums rose by 65 percent.
In the reporting period, the Agrarian Insurance Fund made insurance payments totaling 4.4 million manat ($2.6 million) for damages to farms.
During the first half of the year, 4.2 million manat ($2.5 million) was paid for crop insurance and 190,000 manat ($112,000) for livestock insurance. The volume of damage payments increased by 55 percent compared to the same period of 2024.
During the initial semester of 2025, the fund underwrote a total
of 342,600 hectares of agricultural produce. The aggregate
insurance premiums for these sectors totaled 11.47 million manat
(equivalent to $6.8 million), whereas the cumulative insured sum
escalated to 497 million manat (approximately $293 million). This
year marked a pivotal milestone in the agricultural sector, as
strawberry fields were subjected to comprehensive risk mitigation
through insurance mechanisms for the first time in the nation.
In the designated reporting timeframe, a total of 3,231 livestock
units were underwritten across diverse agricultural sectors
nationwide, signifying an impressive 84 percent uptick relative to
the corresponding timeframe of the previous fiscal year.
The aggregate insurance premiums accrued for livestock coverage
reached 1.64 million manat ($967,000), reflecting a substantial 65
percent increase compared to the preceding fiscal year. The
coverage amount for livestock insurance has attained 19.7 million
manat ($11.6 million).
During the first half of 2025, the predominant agronomic
adversities impacting cultivated terrains included hail, which
compromised 65 percent of agricultural zones, followed by
inundations at 15 percent, tempestuous conditions at 17 percent,
and excessive precipitation accounting for two percent.
Among the crops, after grain, corn, and cotton fields, the highest insurance payouts were made for sunflower, tobacco, pear, peach, sugar beet, hazelnut, almond, and watermelon. The districts with the largest damage payouts during the first half of the year included Fuzuli, Aghjabadi, Tovuz, Tartar, Aghsu, Hajigabul, Beylagan, and Shaki.
