BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 6. Iran has boosted its crude oil output from the South Azadegan oil field, which it shares with Iraq, by 50,000 barrels per day (bpd), Trend reports.
To mark this achievement, a ceremony was held on February 6 in Khuzestan province, in the south-west of Iran. The Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji and other officials attended the event.
The South Azadegan oil field now has 60 additional oil wells in operation, bringing the total number of wells to 203. The field also has 2 collection centers and 1 processing unit.
The second collection center has begun to function with the increased oil production. It will deliver 25,000 barrels of crude oil to the processing unit every day.
The Azadegan is a joint oil field between Iran and Iraq (called Majnoon in Iraq). The field is located 80 km southwest of Ahvaz city in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) and covers 1,500 square kilometers and holds 32 billion barrels of crude oil, currently produces 190,000 bpd. In Iran, this field is usually divided into two parts - North Azadegan and South Azadegan.
Before this, Iran's production in the South Azadegan part of the field was 120,000 barrels per day.
