Iran's Amirkabir University of Technology waits for the Iranian Space Agency to select one of the 3 draft plans for the construction of a new satellite, Ahmad Motamedi, head of Amirkabir University of Technology, told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.
According to Motamedi, once one of the 3 plans is chosen by the agency, a special team of the university will commence its work.
Speaking about the plans for the construction of the satellite, Motamedi added that the 1st draft consists of making a second version of the Payam satellite. Should there be no changes, the satellite should be built within a year.
The 2nd draft takes into account various possible changes that may arise down the line in the satellite's construction, as additional time should be given according to the changes.
Lastly, the 3rd draft considers the construction of a new satellite based on completely new and different models, and, as a matter of fact, the Payam satellite will be transformed into a completely different type of a satellite.
"Some 350-400 billion rials (about $8.33-9.52 million) have been spent for the construction of the Payam satellite. Considering the inflation and the Space Agency's appeal, additional funds should be allocated for the construction of the new satellite," he said.
Iran launched its Payam satellite into space on January 15, 2019. It was reported that the satellite crashed after remaining in the orbit for 5 minutes. This satellite was built during an 11-year period.
