BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. As many as 979,900 foreign nationals and stateless persons from 178 countries visited Azerbaijan from January through May of this year, which is 1.5 percent more than in the same period of last year.
The data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee shows that 24.6 percent of visitors came from Russia, 17.7 percent from Türkiye, 10.7 percent from India, 8.6 percent from Iran, 4.4 percent from Georgia, 3.6 percent from Kazakhstan, 2.9 percent from Saudi Arabia, 2.8 percent from Pakistan, two percent each from the UAE and Israel, 1.9 percent each from Uzbekistan and China, 1.4 percent from Ukraine, 1.3 percent from Turkmenistan, one percent each from Belarus and Kuwait, and 12.2 percent from other countries. Of those who arrived, 68.9 percent were men and 31.1 percent were women.
In a comparative analysis of year-over-year metrics, the influx
of visitors from Israel exhibited a remarkable 2.5-fold escalation,
while Tajikistan demonstrated a 1.7-fold uptick. The Chinese
demographic reflected a 1.5-fold increase, with Jordanian arrivals
surging by 44.3 percent. Kyrgyzstan's contribution rose by 39.5
percent, Japan's by 35.4 percent, and Pakistan's by 21.1 percent.
Kazakhstan's visitor count advanced by 20.4 percent, South Korea's
by 18.2 percent, and the Netherlands by 17.7 percent. Notably, both
Saudi Arabia and the UAE recorded a 17.5 percent increase, Canada
saw a 17.0 percent rise, the US experienced a 16.0 percent growth,
Spain's figures climbed by 15.7 percent, India by 15.1 percent,
Italy by 13.2 percent, and Egypt rounded out the list with a 10.6
percent increase.
In juxtaposition to the initial quintet of months in 2024, the
influx of visitors hailing from European Union member states
experienced an uptick of 2.9 percent, culminating in a total of
39,000 individuals. Conversely, the visitation metrics from Gulf
nations witnessed a decrement of 1.6 percent, resulting in a tally
of 153,700 individuals. The influx of visitors originating from CIS
jurisdictions experienced a contraction of 7.8 percent, culminating
in a total of 326,700, whereas the influx from alternative nations
exhibited an uptick of 10.4 percent, reaching 460,500.
A comprehensive analysis of the modalities utilized by foreign
nationals and stateless individuals entering Azerbaijan reveals
that a substantial 73.4 percent opted for aerial transit, while
25.2 percent employed terrestrial conveyance via rail and motor
vehicles, and a mere 1.4 percent accessed the territory via
maritime routes.
Compared to the period from January through May 2024, the number of Azerbaijani citizens traveling abroad decreased by 0.1 percent to 807,600. The number of Azerbaijani citizens traveling to Iran increased by 27.3 percent and to Georgia by 22.8 percent, while the number traveling to Türkiye decreased by 6.2 percent and to Russia by 25.3 percent. Of Azerbaijani citizens who traveled abroad, 36.5 percent visited Türkiye, 16.4 percent Russia, 11 percent Georgia, 11 percent Iran, and 25.1 percent other countries. Of those who traveled, 66.8 percent were men and 33.2 percent were women.
From January through May 2025, 67.8 percent of Azerbaijani citizens traveling abroad used air transport, 30 percent used rail and motor transport, and 2.2 percent traveled by sea.
