BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 6. A total of 1.972 million tons of brown coal (lignite) were produced in Kyrgyzstan from January through September 2023, up by 5.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (1.869 million tons), Trend reports.
Data from the State Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan indicates that brown coal production in September reached 371,600 tons within the country, which is 7.3 percent more than in September of the previous year when it was 346,200 tons.
Meanwhile, the production of black coal in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 488,700 tons from January through September 2023, rising by 20.2 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (406,500 tons).
In September 2023, Kyrgyzstan produced 112,200 tons of black coal, which is an increase of 72.5 percent compared to September 2022, when the production was only 65 tons.
The production value in Kyrgyzstan's mining sector reached 37.523 billion soms (near $400 million) from January through September 2023, representing 12 percent year-on-year growth.
Overall, Kyrgyzstan’s industrial production value amounted to 331.453 billion soms ($3.710 billion) from January through September 2023, which is 7 percent higher than the production during the same period in 2022. The volume increased by 0.7 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022.
