BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 24. Iran's South Pars Gas Company holds a significant and effective role in the country's gas supply, according to the Director of Production Control and Coordination at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad-Reza Jolaei told reporters, Trend reports.
Jolaei said that the gas processed by the South Pars Gas Company currently accounts for 70 percent of the country's total gas supply.
He noted that the amount of gas produced at the company's processing facilities, when valued in terms of crude oil, is estimated at around 3.5 million barrels.
The company representative also highlighted that Iran's gas extraction from the South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), a joint gas reservoir shared with Qatar, currently exceeds Qatar's production from the North Dome field.
At present, the South Pars Gas Company processes approximately 585 million cubic meters of gas daily, which is then supplied to the national gas network. In addition, the company delivers 450,000 barrels of gas condensate to its processing plant and 120,000 barrels to Nouri (previously Borzouyeh) Petrochemical company each day.
The South Pars Gas Field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The field holds an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, with around 36 trillion cubic meters potentially recoverable. Iran’s share in this field is approximately 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
