BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. Romania and Italy have strengthened their cooperation on Black Sea security and transatlantic relations as part of the Strategic Dialogue on foreign policy and security, Trend reports citing the Romanian Foreign Ministry.

Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu opened the conference dedicated to the Strategic Dialogue between Romania and Italy on foreign policy and security, alongside Stefania Craxi, Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Italian Senate.

The event, in its second edition, was organized by the Romanian Embassy in Italy in partnership with the New Strategy Center and Istituto Affari Internazionali, and took place at the Istituto Luigi Sturzo. The conference provided an opportunity to deepen dialogue between Romanian and Italian experts from academic institutions on security and foreign policy issues, including challenges in the Black Sea region and transatlantic cooperation, topics of interest to both countries.

Recalling the historical and cultural affinities between Romania and Italy, the Romanian Foreign Minister encouraged cooperation to restore peace and security in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, to strengthen stability in the Western Balkans, and to consolidate cooperation and cohesion within NATO and the EU.

She emphasized Romania’s intention to develop regional cooperation in the Black Sea area, both in navigation security and in the development of the region’s economic and energy potential. She noted that strengthening NATO-EU cooperation and the transatlantic relationship remains essential in the current context. Romania expressed interest in developing cooperation with Italy across all these areas, as well as in safeguarding security in the Western Balkans and Mediterranean regions.

The conference supported the overall objective of the visit: strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership through the exchange of opinions and perspectives, and identifying opportunities for cooperation in priority areas for both countries.

At the conclusion of the event, the Foreign Minister held a meeting with Stefania Craxi, Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Italian Senate, during which they discussed topics such as the strategic importance of advancing the EU enlargement process, joint efforts to combat disinformation and hybrid threats, and the crucial value of transatlantic unity.
