BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. Kyrgyzstan increased its trade turnover with Germany by 36.7% year-on-year in the first five months of 2026, reaching $105.1 million.
According to data from Kyrgyzstan's National Statistics Committee, trade between the two countries totaled $105.06 million from January through May 2026, compared to $76.87 million in the corresponding period of 2025.
Germany accounted for 1.7% of Kyrgyzstan's total foreign trade turnover during the reporting period.
Kyrgyz exports to Germany declined by 13.4% year-on-year to $1.91 million, down from $2.21 million a year earlier. Germany accounted for 0.2% of Kyrgyzstan's total exports.
Meanwhile, imports from Germany surged by 38.2% to $103.14 million, compared to $74.66 million in January–May 2025. German goods represented 1.9% of Kyrgyzstan's total imports.
As imports continued to significantly exceed exports, Kyrgyzstan recorded a trade deficit with Germany of $101.23 million during the reporting period.
Overall, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover increased by 1% year-on-year to $6.257 billion in the first five months of 2026, compared to $6.197 billion a year earlier.
During the reporting period, the country's total exports declined by 9.3% to $847.1 million, while imports rose by 2.8% to $5.41 billion. As a result, Kyrgyzstan's overall trade deficit widened to $4.563 billion.
According to Trend's analysis, the latest figures show that trade with Germany expanded substantially faster than Kyrgyzstan's overall foreign trade, with bilateral turnover rising by 36.7%, compared to the country's overall 1% increase.
The growth was driven almost entirely by a 38.2% surge in imports from Germany, while exports to the German market fell by 13.4%, a steeper decline than the nationwide 9.3% drop in Kyrgyz exports.
The widening gap between imports and exports underscores Germany's role primarily as a supplier of goods to Kyrgyzstan, contributing to a significantly larger bilateral trade deficit despite the strong increase in overall trade turnover.
