ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 2. Turkmenistan and Mongolia discussed prospects for establishing an East-West transport, transit, and logistics corridor, Trend reports.
The topic was addressed during the meeting of Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
Being one of the initiators of this strategic project, Turkmenistan considers it as a means of reviving the economic, practical and cultural foundations of the Great Silk Road on modern principles. The project aims to strengthen partnerships across Eurasia and ensure the participation of many countries in these efforts.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the two friendly nations could actively collaborate to resolve various issues related to Mongolia’s access to the sea. He suggested exploring the potential use of the Central Asian corridor and the Caspian Sea region to boost Mongolia’s export capabilities.
This historic visit marks the first-ever state visit of a Mongolian head of state to Turkmenistan since diplomatic relations were established on April 23, 1992. It is seen as the beginning of a new, qualitative stage in bilateral relations, which continue to develop steadily both bilaterally and multilaterally through major international organizations and respected regional platforms.
