BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. Norwegian energy company Equinor has signed a long-term agreement to supply natural gas to the Czech Republic’s capital through local utility Pražská plynárenská, the companies said, Trend reports.
The contract runs until October 1, 2035, with gas deliveries made at the Czech hub. Terms, volumes, and pricing were not disclosed.
The gas, sourced from Equinor’s fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, will provide heat, electricity and natural gas to households and businesses in Prague and other regions.
“I am excited that we have made this agreement with Pražská plynárenská and that we now provide energy to homes and enterprises in the Czech Republic,” Equinor CEO Anders Opedal said. “This joins a string of long-term gas contracts we have signed across Europe in recent years, demonstrating the role gas plays for European energy security.”
Ludvík Baleka, Chairman of Pražská plynárenská, said the agreement would “significantly strengthen the stability and reliability of natural gas supplies” for the company’s customers, covering a substantial portion of household consumption.
Equinor, which has traditionally focused on Northwest Europe and the UK, has expanded its gas supply markets over the past decade to include the Baltics, Poland, and now Central and Southern Europe.
