ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 24. In Kazakhstan’s
Astana, Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of
KazMunayGas, met with Clay Neff, President of International
Exploration and Production at Chevron Corporation, Trend reports via
KazMunayGas.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the successful launch of
the Future Growth Project (FGP) facilities at the Tengiz field this
year, which has made a significant contribution to the sustainable
development of the country.
They also discussed the progress of major oil and gas projects,
issues of industrial safety, and increasing the level of local
content in Kazakhstan.
“Askhat Khassenov emphasized the importance of ensuring stable oil
production after the commissioning of the FGP facilities, as well
as complying with all project requirements for rational subsoil
use. Particular attention was given to the need for timely
maintenance and modernization of production facilities to maintain
a high level of industrial safety,” the company’s press service
said.
Furthermore, the nuts and bolts of crafting a long-term strategy
for building up homegrown value were put under the microscope. The
Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has thrown down the
gauntlet to Tengizchevroil (TCO), challenging them to up the ante
by boosting the local content in goods from a mere 7 percent to a
robust 30 percent.
Furthermore, the ball was set rolling on the prospects for
cooperation in geological exploration, with a spotlight on the
current state of joint research regarding the Mugodzhar
project.
At the end of the meeting, the parties were all on the same page,
ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into cooperation in all the
key areas.
As the dust settles on the first five months of 2025, the
production volume at the Tengiz field has hit the ground running,
reaching around 15.9 million tons of oil. The production plan for
this year is set at a whopping 35.7 million tons.
