BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 5. Production at well No. 12 of phase 11 of South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar), Iran's joint gas field with Qatar, has increased by 1.5 million cubic meters per day, the executive director of Iran's Petropars Company, Hamidreza Saqafi told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, acidizing works were carried out at the aforementioned well. Once the work was completed, it became clear that production would increase.
Saqafi stated that Petropars is committed to bridge the energy shortage in the country. According to him, the increase in production is a step towards sustainable energy supply and development of Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field.
The South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint Iran-Qatar gas field. It is reported that gas reserves in this field amount to 51 trillion cubic meters, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate. The Iranian side claims that more than 700 million cubic meters of gas is produced daily from the field.
To note, the French company Total and the Chinese company CNPCI
have refused to operate in the 11th phase of the South Pars gas
field due to US sanctions against Iran. Consequently, the
operations in this phase are fully entrusted to the Iranian Petro
Pars company.
Two platforms (a and b) are expected to be operated in Phase 11 of
the South Pars gas field. Once both platforms are fully
operational, 2 billion cubic feet (about 56.6 million cubic meters)
of rich gas will be produced daily. Iran started daily production
of 10-12 million cubic feet of rich gas from Phase 11 of the South
Pars gas field from August 11, 2023.
