BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. The volume of fuel (diesel and fuel oil) supplied to Iran's thermal power plants (TPPs) surged by 1.2 billion liters, or 64 percent, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024), Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Oil.
In the first two months, 3.8 billion liters of liquid fuel (diesel and fuel oil) were delivered to the TPPs against 2.6 billion liters in the same period last year.
Over the reporting period, two billion liters of diesel were delivered to the above plants, up 600 million liters, or 42 percent year on year.
In the second month, fuel oil delivered to the TPPs amounted to 1.8 billion liters, increasing by 1.2 billion liters, or 52 percent, compared to the same period last year.
Iran's electricity generation potential was 93,455 MW. The production potential of the local thermal power plants was 76,257 MW, hydropower plants - 12,144 MW, retail power plants - 2,485 MW, renewable power plants - 1,450 MW, the Bushehr nuclear power plant - 1,020 MW, and diesel units - 408 MW.
Iran experiences a severe shortage of electricity during the summer. To this end, the country has changed the working hours of government agencies this year and imposed a number of other restrictions.
