BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. The Azerbaijani model of tolerance has been presented to a delegation of U.S. Jewish organizations, the Caucasus Muslims Office told Trend.
The model was presented during the meeting of the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, with a delegation led by Betsy Berns Korn, Chairperson of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
During the meeting, she expressed satisfaction with her visit to Azerbaijan as the head of a representative delegation.
Korn expressed her deep appreciation for Azerbaijan's extensive experience in fostering interreligious cooperation, highlighting the nation's enduring atmosphere of tolerance and its commitment to multicultural values. She emphasized her high regard for the opportunity to engage directly with Azerbaijan's diverse religious environment.
The delegation remarked that, of the many discussions they held in Azerbaijan, their meeting with the country’s religious leader and the spiritual leader of the entire Caucasus was particularly significant. They requested that Pashazade offer insights into Azerbaijan's model of tolerance, as well as share his perspectives on how such a model could be adapted and implemented in other countries.
Pashazade elaborated on the historical and contemporary dimensions of Azerbaijan's approach to interreligious dialogue and cooperation. He emphasized that tolerance, both ethnic and religious, along with harmonious interfaith relations, are not merely abstract ideals but integral aspects of daily life in Azerbaijan. The chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office underscored that the country’s various religious communities stand united, whether in moments of joy or sorrow, and even during the most pivotal times in the nation's history.
Recalling the 44-day Second Karabakh War, Pashazade noted that Azerbaijani citizens representing all religious faiths rallied around the state, fought shoulder to shoulder for their native land, and became martyrs. He proudly highlighted that the memory of heroes, representatives of various religions and ethnic communities, lives in the hearts of every Azerbaijani.
